This icon I painted before the Canonization of Elder Porphyrios of Kavsokalyva.
Twenty-two years after the repose of Father Porphyrios, he became a Saint. Announced by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of the Greek Orthodox Church in Greece, ‘come receive the light from the unwaning light’ and this light is the eternal fire of our venerable Father Porphyrios, the clairvoyant and universal scientist.”
He had communion with the Saints, with God, with all of Creation, and he helped many people. He worked miracles through his gifts of seeing, open heartedness, and foresight. An icon to behold.
The basic core of thought of Elder Porphyrios was that the world has a need to consolidate and cultivate love towards their Creator, not through a fear of things to come, but through a selfless relationship, like a loving father to his child. Unity, which is the greatest inheritance of Christ to His Apostles, be assured when a child unites with the father primarily through love and not fear.
Feast Day : December 2nd, the day of his repose.
There are few works written and translated about the Elder Porphyrios. One of which my spiritual Father and friend Fr. Constantine Simones translated called Elder Porphyrios Testimonies and Experiences. These are real experiences that the elder’s spiritual children recollected and documented. Another book called Wounded by Love. The Life and the Wisdom of Elder Porphyrios. The contents of this book are recorded by two women that knew the Elder for over three decades. This book filled with his spiritual knowledge, thoughts and conversations. The primary concern when the book came to be written was to keep the words as if the elder was writing them himself.
